Levels

Yoga posture at sunriseBeginner:
Anyone with limited or no yoga experience should start with beginner level. We would recommend that you spend around a year learning the basics in a beginner level class before you move on. These classes are designed to give you a really good understanding of alignment, breathing, moving with the breath and the philosophy of yoga.

Improver:
Once you feel ready to move on from beginner level, it's time to move to improver. Some people stay at this level as they enjoy the pace of the class and don't feel the need to challenge themselves with a more strenuous practice. A yoga class for improvers will give you a really good overall practice. It will include some breathwork and meditation, lots of postures and movement and a guided relaxation.

Experienced:
Our yoga classes for experienced students are for those who have practised a number of years of yoga and probably have their own home practice. Some of our experienced students have completed a yoga teacher training course. In these classes, we might explore, among other things, different arm balances, backbends and creative vinyasa flows. However the environment is not competitive or intimidating. It is simply a place for those with a dedicated practice to take their practice further.

Open:
An open level yoga class is one that is suitable for everyone. If you have a strong practice, you will be given the option to add postures or variations of postures to the practice so that you get what you need on that day. If you are newer to yoga, you will be given more guidance and alternative postures when necessary so that the level meets your needs. An open level class is a lovely space for people to come together in a guided class and still have your individual needs met.

N/A:
Not all classes have a level - for example, baby massage, prenatal yoga, etc. Some of these classes don't involve yoga at all and the others are specifically tailored to meet your needs. So for example, if you have been suffering from different ailments during pregnancy, it is usually possible to include postures that will offer you relief.
